The Flour Mill of Summer Hill was announced Development of the Year – New Communities (2019) at the Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence. For everyone involved—developers, partners, residents and local supporters—the recognition was deeply meaningful.
While past awards for architecture, landscaping and heritage have acknowledged the physical achievement, this award celebrated something bigger: the community that has grown from it.
The New Communities award is less about what was constructed and more about who we have become. It recognises the years spent listening to residents, understanding their hopes and needs, and delivering on the promise of not just a home, but a place where people feel they belong. It acknowledges the activation strategies, volunteer efforts and grassroots initiatives that have helped the precinct evolve into a vibrant, welcoming neighbourhood. And it honours the ways people show up for one another, sometimes through organised events, and sometimes through simple, everyday acts of kindness between neighbours.
As a Collective of business, we reflect on this recognition, we do so with immense pride to continue to breathe life into the Flour Mill every day. Long after the trophy gathers dust on a shelf, the true legacy will live on in the people who call this place home, and in the community they continue to nurture.
