Creating Real Human Connection, One Neighbourhood at a Time

In a world of beautifully designed buildings but increasingly disconnected lives, Little BIG House exists to do something simple, and deeply powerful: bring people together.

Founded by Property Developer EG and led by Sarah, Little BIG House is a volunteer-led community hub at the Flour Mill in Summer Hill, created in response to a growing gap Sarah kept seeing in modern neighbourhoods: a lack of real human connection.

After years working in charities, place-based marketing roles and community engagement, Sarah noticed a recurring pattern. Places were being built, but communities weren’t forming. People wanted to connect, to start a choir, host a boardgame night, run a parents’ group, but were blocked by red tape, insurance costs and inaccessible community spaces. At the same time, loneliness was quietly rising, amplified by lockdowns, remote work, online living and high-density housing that didn’t account for what happens after construction is complete.

What Little BIG House does

Little BIG House is a community hub run almost entirely by volunteers. Each month, those volunteers host 60- 90 events, including:

  • Parents’ groups
  • Crafternoons and creative sessions
  • Coworking mornings
  • Seniors’ social clubs
  • Workshops and peer-led gatherings

The guiding principle is simple:
If the community wants it, and people show up, it belongs here.

Little BIG also created the Flour Mill Food Festival, designed to get people out of their homes and connecting with one another, right where they live, complementing the much-loved local markets and strengthening the neighbourhood’s social fabric.

Behind the scenes, Little BIG House also:

  • Partners with developers, councils and precinct teams
  • Advises on social infrastructure and community activation
  • Advocates for government to consider a national loneliness strategy
  • Builds and measures real social impact
  • Develops scalable, low-cost systems that empower locals to lead

Who Little BIG House is for

Little BIG House is for anyone with the time to walk by. Parents. Freelancers. Retirees. Newcomers. Young professionals. Community-minded locals. Anyone craving connection. And if someone feels a group or perspective isn’t represented? Sarah’s answer is always the same: be the person who starts the thing that brings them in.

At the heart of Little BIG House is a passion for community leadership development. The organisation is committed to helping volunteers grow, build confidence and find their place, while designing systems that allow everyday people to create the communities they want to live in.

Why the Flour Mill matters

For Sarah, the Flour Mill is genuinely special.

“It’s industrial history meeting new life,” she says. “Surrounded by passionate locals who value community.”

She loves the mix of families, creatives and small businesses — and especially loves hearing people talk about what they love about the Flour Mill, without knowing her role in it.

An open invitation
